 Our Mission and Objectives

MetamorphoSIS is CU’s SIS Replacement project whose mission is to replace the current, 20-year-old Student Information System (SIS), one of the most mission-critical systems for the university, with a new system that provides improved functionality, access to information and improvements to the services we currently provide our students.

What is MetamorphoSIS?

MetamorphoSIS is CU’s SIS Replacement project whose mission is to replace the current, 20-year-old Student Information System (SIS), one of the most mission-critical systems for the university, with a new system that provides improved functionality, access to information and improvements to the services we currently provide our students. Just a few of our goals:

  • Implement a system that gives CU a single system of record for all students with the flexibility to accommodate differences in student popula- tions, campus policies and processes.
  • Improve interoperability between SIS and satellite systems.
  • Use both easy-to-use reporting tools and more sophisticated analytical tools to provide university administrators comprehensive data for planning and analysis.
  • Improve data quality and timeliness.
  • Develop the IT infrastructure for high availability and reliability, driving toward 24/7 availability, 365 days per year.
  • Establish processes and structures to enable cost- effective support after the project end date, incorporating best practices from the project implementation into the on-going support and upgrade cycle.
  • Lay the foundation for increasing the efficiencies of student administrative processes through automation.

Why are we replacing the system?

Because the current system is over 20 years old and is no longer supported by the software vendor, the university is at risk of having this very mission-critical system fail. A failure of the SIS system could mean students are not admitted or cannot enroll in classes, financial aid cannot be awarded or disbursed, tuition and fees cannot be collected, final grades cannot be posted correctly, student transcripts cannot be processed correctly and the like.

Our new, state-of-the-art system, used by many large research universities, will provide additional functionality and improvements to existing services, all within a system that has broad support in the higher education community.

What’s in scope for the new system?

We’re replacing the current SIS with a comprehensive suite of software that allows users to manage the entire student life-cycle. The browser-based system also provides users with 24/7 access to real-time information that is captured, consolidated and maintained in a single repository and distributed across the CU system as needed.

Specifically, here’s what we’re implementing:

  • Oracle’s Campus Solutions including Admissions, Student Records and Registration, Financial Aid, Student Financials (billing and collections), self- service for students and faculty
  • Customer Relationship Management (CRM)
  • Degree Audit
  • Document Management
  • Data Conversion
  • Data Warehouse, reporting, and analysis
  • Master Data Management for ID management and data quality
  • New portal for faculty, staff, and students
  • Classroom scheduling
  • Web-based training and on-line help system
  • Software systems to support improved integration of systems and automated workflow

To give you an idea of the new system’s functionality, here are a few of the things the new system will do:

  • Use a Customer Relationship Management System (CRM) to connect with prospective students through communication tailored to a student’s specific interests.
  • Allow students to apply for admission using an on-line application and monitor their application using an application checklist.
  • Manage a student’s entire life-cycle from admission confirmation through graduation and beyond, including all billing activity.
  • Provide on-line access to documents and reports and allow for the development of better reporting tools through an on-line query system and a new data warehouse.
  • Track all course, teaching and room scheduling data.
  • Manage the complex financial aid process and monitoring of student aid.
  • Include an integrated document management and imaging system that will allow access to different on-line document, streamlining the paper process that required students, faculty and staff to complete forms and manually submit them across campus.
